This poster was an absolute blast to make with my good friends Nadine Nakanishi and Nick Butcher of Sonnenzimmer for a solo show of mine in 2013 at the now defunct Rational Park in Chicago. Nick and Nadine introduced me to this four color CMYK screen printing process which can reproduce photographic color quite accurately— but you can also play with the effects by cutting into the image of each layer to allow for bursts of the remaining color channels to take over. I used a detail image of one of my large paintings in the show as the source image and cut out abstract shapes from each layer to create a variation on the composition. After the four color process was printed Nick and Nadine recommended adding a subtle fifth layer with an additional, mostly-transparent but slightly reflective layer that would add dimension to the composition when the light catches the right way.
