archival pigment prints

“Phenotypes” is an ongoing series of archival pigment prints stemming from a process of scanner-based collaging. Each image is printed in a single unique edition.
This body of work has become a kind of fulcrum for my broader practice in recent years. The images created in this process end up as single edition archival pigment prints, but they also get used as springboards for other works, either by printing on canvas or being further manipulated and printed for collages, et cetera.
The scanning process involves a series of movements which generate unique disruptions to the image. For each collection of collage fragments that enter the scanner, I repeat the process multiple times to create variations based on altering the movements. These variations act as siblings or cousins in my mind, creating localized sets of resemblance between images.
